Welcome Bonnie Hubert 2009 Mrs. Texas International

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 77 located in the beautiful gulf coast community of Houston, Texas, is pleased to welcome our newest member Bonnie Hubert, 2009 Mrs. Texas International.

As posted on Bonnie Hubert’s blog — I strive everyday to be super mom… a super human. My goal is to, as Bernard Shaw put it, “be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no “brief candle” to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and want to make burn as brightly as possible before handing it on for future generations.”

2009 President’s Report

The major concentration of our auxiliary is primarily the community needs, specifically for the children and the veterans. Our focus is providing the items like clothing and food for the underprivileged, and we do so through contributions of monies, donations of the essentials to numerous organizations, and volunteering our time. Our number of members is small, but the synergistic effect of our individual efforts makes a significant impact in the community. The success of our programs is due to empowering our members to utilize their individual skill sets to the best of their ability, and where they feel they can make the greatest impact. By encouraging the strengths of the individuals and allowing the latitude of individuality, we have found that our small numbers can have a widespread effect throughout Houston and surrounding areas. It is important to work as a team on joint projects, it is often difficult because our members reside in numerous counties throughout Texas and in otherStates. Through high-technology we are able to communicate effectively, and can coordinate many programs that make an impact in our respective communities be it in Houston, or elsewhere. Letter-writing campaigns are initiated throughout the state, and food and clothing drives are orchestrated individually to the benefit of each of our neighborhoods. In each individual community are specific needs which must be addressed, and the best way to accomplish that is for the Auxiliary members in that area to take affirmative action. Each monthly meeting we discuss a projects and then we can each implement them in our own respective neighborhoods. This methodology appears to bring about the greatest desired results. In the coming year we will continue our focus on veterans and their families, children and the communities. Our drive to collect essential items requested by our armed forces is very successful. We have implemented a new project this year and that is clipping coupons and sending them to a commissary in Germany. We have our members, our neighbors, and our families involved in this very important project. This allows us to support our military families overseas and helps us accomplish the mission and purpose of the American Legion

Auxiliary.

For God and Country,
