2009 Girls State

Annually, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 77, proudly sponsors selected girls from the Houston high school population to attend Girls State.

2009 Girls State Information

Texas Bluebonnet Girls State is a mythical 51st state where, for a week, participants organize their own city, county, and state governments. They elect their own officials. They learn the duties of the various city, county and state offices. They introduce and debate their own bills in a mock legislature. The program concludes with a visit to the State Capitol building in Austin where the girls are given an opportunity to sight-see and meet state officials. The purpose of Girls State is to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.

The site of this year’s Girls State session is Texas Lutheran University located in Seguin, Texas. The program begins on Sunday, June 14 and ends Saturday, June 20, 2009. During the Girls State session call: 1-830-372-8000. A Texas Lutheran University operator will direct your call to the Girls State office.

2008 Boys State and Girls State Citizens Luncheon

The American Legion Post 77 and Auxilliary Unit 77 celebrated the participation of our selected students in the 2008 Boys State and Girls State programs with a special luncheon.  Congratulations boys and girls on your successful program completion and best of luck in your future endeavors!
